Dalian Nov. 2025 Nursing Home Double Ninth Festival
Dalian, China · November 2025

As autumn deepens and the Double Ninth Festival approaches, students from the Dalian campus of Maple Leaf International School visited a local nursing home to spend time with elderly residents. Participating as a branch of the MLIS Students Charity Union, the students aimed to bring warmth, companionship, and festive joy to the seniors.

The visit began with a gentle solo performance of the song “Grandma’s Penghu Bay.” Its nostalgic melody quickly resonated with the residents. One grandmother began clapping along, and soon the entire room joined in, keeping rhythm with smiles and shining eyes.

The performance was followed by an energetic duet of “The Most Dazzling Ethnic Style,” which filled the hall with laughter and lively singing. Students and residents shared the joyful atmosphere, creating a warm moment of connection across generations.

More than a musical performance, the visit reflected the mission of the MLIS Students Charity Union — a student-led nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to meaningful volunteer opportunities and encouraging social responsibility among young people.

As one of its active campus branches, the Dalian team works to translate compassion into action by engaging directly with local communities and supporting groups in need.

The Double Ninth Festival, traditionally associated with honoring elders in Chinese culture, provided a meaningful backdrop for this event. Through their service, the students not only enriched the daily lives of the residents but also deepened their own understanding of empathy, gratitude, and civic responsibility.

This visit marks another step in the Union’s ongoing commitment to community engagement. The Dalian branch will continue organizing initiatives that promote respect for seniors and encourage meaningful interaction between younger and older generations.
